...all that remains is memory

Sob pakhi ghorey pherey, sob nodi
Phurai e jiboner sob len-den
Thakey sudhu 'remember'.
Poem in Bengali by Jibananda Das, slightly modified by me.

Whatever you do in life - see beautiful places, enjoy nice food, do something good - all that remains is only memory, nothing else.
Past is gone, future I have not seen, present is elusive - it is always slipping into past. Time is always moving forward. In life, there is only play and stop buttons, no rewind button.
The world is full of mystery. We know only very little about it.
Compared to the size of the universe we are miniscule, almost non-existent.
Our life is like a bubble which bursts almost as soon as it is formed. The universe has existed for billions of years and will last for billions of years more. Compared to this our life is like a bubble.
We live roughly about 60 yrs out of which we sleep for 60 yrs!

My body and I

I would like to share my ideaas and thoughts on who I think I am.
I am separate from my body. That is why I say, this is my head, this is my hand etc. I live inside my body. I am part of God, so are you and all living beings. My body without me inside is useless and an inert object.
I like the analogy of a car. The car is like the body. The driver is like the soul inside the body of a living being. To make it useful the driver has to drive it.
I need to look after my body. The car needs maintenance.
To keep the body healthy, I adopt a healthy lifestyle. To keep the car in good condition, use it sensibly.
Car needs maintenace. Our body also needs maintenance.
Any fault in the car needs repairing. Some I can do myself - DIY. For other more difficult problems, I need the help of a mechanic.
Similarly, for the body we can do some things ourself, like adopting a healthy lifestyle, cholesterol do-it-yourself do-it-yourself etc. For more complicated problems, I need a doctor.
When the car becomes useless, the driver leaves it and buys a new car. Similarly, when my body will become useless, I shall leave it (so called death), and buy a new car (take up a new body = born again) and so on. These are my ideaas only, believe it or not!

Do you feel tired all the time?

Are you tired all the time? If so, you will be pleased to know that you are not alone. In this modern stressful life, there are many reasons to be worried and anxious. Some are even depressed at the gloomy life prospect. They may lose appetite and lose weight as well, as a result of depression and anxiety.
Although depression can make someone feel tired all the time and lose weight, anyone with these two symptoms should visit their doctor to make sure that there is no underlying organic cause for those symptoms. Read the article 'tired all the time' at ideaas.eu. under diseases and conditions to find out the details on the causes and relevant investigations etc.

Amount of water you should drink per day

Sometimes, one is not sure how much water to drink in a day. In my view this is what I think should be the amount. Similar principle of everything in moderation is ok if you are otherwise well.

For a normal adult about 8 cups of water is sufficient. Each cup is 200mls, that makes 1600mls of water per day. 1.5 to 2 litres per day is adequate. If you sweat a lot or exercise or have a fever or if weather is too hot, you are having diarrhoea etc, then you need to drink more. Normal kidneys have a capacity to retain or excrete water from our system to maintain normal levels of salts in the blood (electrolytes). However, drinking too much water in some may rarely lead to 'water intoxication' as the kidneys have a limit to how much water it can tackle. If you need to drink more water, you will feel thirsty and urine will be high coloured and concentrated, even you may feel a burning sensation when passing water. On drinking water the colour of urine will return to normal. Feeling very thirsty and passing too much water may be a symptom of diabetes or high serum calcium. If serum sodium ( a salt in blood) is low, sometimes doctors restrict water intake to, say, 1 litre per day till the sodium level return to normal.
I feel, you don't need to purify the water further in the UK. You can drink tap water without any problem. Read more about healthy lifestyle at ideaas.eu.

Hypertension diagnosis and management withABPM

In my opinion high blood pressure can be better managed with Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor (ABPM) than conventional manual measurement method.

Clinic blood preasure measurements, done manually, which at present are used to diagnose hypertension, are likely to give false positive and false negative results in any patient as there are intra and interobserver variation and other factors.

Manual blood pressure recording has the following difficulties:
>Observer variation – the reading varies when same person checks blood pressure (BP) at different times (intra observer variation). It varies with person to person measuring BP (interobserver variation).
>Phase IV (muffling of sound) or phase`V (disappearance of sound) of Korotkoff sound as distolic pressure. Some use phase IV and some use phase V
>Tendancy to take the rounded up figure, e.g. if it is 138mm we may call it 140mm.
>White coat effect – BP rises initially because of anxiety.

In spite of all the problems around us, the world is still a very beautiful place. There is so much to see and enjoy beautiful things around us so that I feel one human life is not enough. Have you seen the stars in the sky in millions or billions? To enjoy all these and other free beauty of nature, you need a healthy body and a healthy mind. I shall say it again that you should adopt a healthy lifestyle. To see how it is done, go to ideaas.eu and read healthy lifestyle...

Know about high blood pressure

High blood pressure (hypertension) silently damages various organs.

Basic mechanism of damage is – accelerates the process of atherosclerosis and damages the heart.

How heart is damaged – Heart has to pump harder, so it hypertrophies first (like bodybuilders build there muscles by exercising). After a while, the heart cannot cope anymore (heart failure), gives rise to congestion and accumulation of fluid in the lungs causing breathlessness. This is left ventricular failure (left heart failure). Later right ventricle also fails, giving rise to congestive cardiac failure – manifested by ankle oedema, enlarged tender liver and raised JVP (Jugular Venous Pressure).
High BP can cause haemorrhagic stroke (bleeding into the brain – cerebral haemorrhage). Atherosclerosis causes ischaemic stroke (cerebral infarction) and heart attack (myocardial infarction). Eyes can be damaged due to hypertensive retinopathy.

So, it is important to do something about high blood pressure - read  High blood pressure at ideaas.eu

Promoting health benefit of alcohol may be counter productive

In my opinion, health benefits of alcohol consumption should not be promoted and it can be counter productive.
Although alcohol in moderation is accepted as a part of healthy lifestylyle, there is a risk of a social and health drinkers sleep-walking into alcohol dependence. Not everyone has the will power to stop on time and stick to a healthy amount of alcohol intake. Read alcoholism to find out about alcohol problem and how you can detect a drinks problem early.

Let us all stop smoking

If I had the power, I would ban smoking altogether. Smokers must be happy that I don't have that power.
Everything in moderation is acceptable as a part of healthy lifestyle in a normal person, except smoking. because it does not provide any health benefit.
There is nothing guaranteed in life except the fact that we are all going to die one day. Even if we don't have any disease, still this is going to happen. The main underlying process is atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). This process is accelerated by smoking. In addition, smoking damages the lungs as well as other organs  leading to early death. Even the existence towards the end can be quite miserable. See why stop smoking for details.
For a heavy smoker, it is no good cutting down. It is like this - if a person smokes 40 per day, it is equivalent to jumping from a 40 storey building. If he cuts down to 20 per day, it is like jumping from a 20 storey building - the outcome is likely to be the same.
So, if possible, don't get into the habit at all. Let us all stop smoking.

We should all adopt a healthy lifestyle

Basic concept of disease: It results from the interaction between gene and environment. We cannot do anything about gene. We are born with it. We shall have to live with it (and die with it). But, if we want, we can change the environment in our favour. First step is to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
